 The future's green in CambridgeLocal Labour MEP Richard Howitt can now travel in true Swedish style without compromising his environmental conscience after taking delivery of a Saab 9-5 BioPower Saloon model from Cambridge Saab. Richard, who represents the East of England in the European Parliament, looked to Cambridge Saab to supply him with a vehicle that would exemplify his ongoing commitment to preserving and improving the local environment. On picking up the keys, Richard said: "Part of my role is to ensure that the region is as environmentally responsible as possible, and what better way to demonstrate this myself than by driving a Saab BioPower vehicle. This is particularly relevant in a region where bioethanol is now produced and is more widely available than any other area in the UK. Opting to drive a vehicle powered by bioethanol as opposed to a diesel car is one way to make an environmental difference and I am delighted with the car I have chosen." James Howarth, Dealer Principal of Cambridge Saab, said: "The Saab 9-5 BioPower not only offers an enhanced driving experience over a regular petrol-engined model, it also uses a more eco-friendly fuel that will ultimately benefit the local environment." The Saab 9-5 BioPower is a flex-fuel car whose fossil CO2 emission level can be reduced by as much as 70 per cent compared to a standard petrol-engined car. Saab BioPower technology means that vehicles are capable of running on either a high-blend mixture of eco-friendly renewable energy source bioethanol and petrol (E85), or on pure petrol, without any adjustment required by the driver. Following the opening of the first bioethanol E85 pumps in East Anglia last year, Harvest BioEthanol E85 - currently retailing at 2 pence per litre less than petrol - is now available from 20 Morrisons forecourts across the UK, with more pumps planned in various locations across the country.
